Title of the project:

Deep water, for swimmers only!

Purpose of the program to be supported:

We support metropolitan community initiatives professionally and financially. Initiatives that over time, can embrace local issues from a local source, professionally and in the long run, also financially, in the form of a community foundation.
The effect of this work is to increase individual and community initiative, empowerment and responsibility, and to strengthen trust and solidarity in society. With the help of our supporters at Swimathon, we can provide the highest quality support to community foundations in Hungary, the number of which is already 7 and we hope this number will increase.

The need / problem the project offers a solution for:

We see that in Hungary, social trust, action, belief in the power of example and civic activity have significantly decreased, while the feeling of individual and community vulnerability is increasing. It is essential for the long-term development of local communities to build trust between people, to strengthen relations and solidarity between different social groups, and to set an example by working together for common goals. The form of community foundations is an excellent and proven tool for achieving these goals.

Planned activities in the project, and the expected schedule:

As part of our project, we are currently working with seven community foundations who receive professional and financial support from us. These include four rural towns and three metropolitan districts. We will use the Swimathon support for their further development and level up. We will challenge the foundations with financial and professional challenges depending on their age, knowledge and experience, and if these are achieved, we will reward their efforts proportionately. We want to raise HUF 4 million to support and recognize their work in 2022. The amount received for their support will be disbursed in the support period from January 1, 2023 to March 31, 2023.

Planned budget of the project, in brief (cost types and amounts):

The amount of financial support during the project period is HUF 4 million. The use of the grant during this period is decided by the foundations, adapted to local conditions in order to carry out their activities as successfully as possible. They can spend this amount on organizing events, various campaigns and self-improvement.

Intended use of the support collected at Swimathon:

We would like to use the proceeds in full to recognize the work of the 7 Community Foundations in 2022 and to fund their secure operation in 2023.

What impact is expected from the implementation of the project and how will it be measured?

We hope that by the end of 2022, all foundations will operate as a confident and solid organization. We want to measure the planned impact from several perspectives: to what extent did the teams achieve the goals set for them? What is the quality and the content of their professional and financial reporting at the end of 2022? We also carry out impact assessments on their work, to see how they value their own successes / possible failures.

Name and objective of the NGO implementing the project:

Roots and Wings Foundation:
The aim of our work is to initiate a profound social change in Hungary by supporting bottom-up initiatives that increase individual initiative and responsibility, and strengthen trust and solidarity in society. We believe that the programs of the Roots and Wings Foundation prove, first and foremost, locally and then nationally the spirit of initiative, individual responsibility, and the power that creates solidarity for the long-term development of a community. In order to achieve these goals, we organize various professional trainings for the organizing groups, activate our contact capital, and provide financial support in several forms.
